SRE (Scripture) and JAFFA in Schools

Barwon District Anglican Churches is responsible for teaching SRE (Special Religious Education), often known as Scripture, in Collarenebri Central School and Rowena Public School. This is available for primary-school aged students whose parent or carer has given consent.

All special religious education teachers engaged by this provider have either obtained Working with Children Check Clearance numbers, and evidence including verification of clearance is kept on record, or if under 18, have undertaken the appropriate declaration to the effect that they are not disqualified persons within the meaning of section 18 of the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012, and copies of the declarations are kept on record.

We have in place a system of authorised initial and ongoing training for teachers that includes training in classroom management and child protection (Safe Ministry). If you would like to talk more about Safe Ministry please contact: Mrs Clare Cherry (Safe Ministry Representative, Barwon District Anglican Churches) 0429 721 643.

Barwon District Anglican Churches also provides a weekly opt-in lunchtime kids’ club at Walgett Community College Primary School. This is not SRE, but is a Scripture Union Primary Age (SUPA) club, that we call JAFFA (Jesus A Friend For All). Through song and music, games, story, drama, video, and craft we teach the Bible’s good news of God’s love for us all in Jesus. This is available for primary-school aged students whose parent or carer has given consent; if you would like a permission note please click on: JAFFA Club Permission 2017 and return it to the School Office.
