On the ABC TV show QnA, a Senator said opposition to same-sex marriage comes from a place of hate, and that Christian views ought to be dismissed from the debate (17 Aug 2015).
Is that right?
In a democratic country all people ought to be free to speak, regardless of their religion or lifestyle.
What’s more, Christians have a strong history of following Jesus in doing good for their society.
We are strangers in this land (our citizenship is in heaven) but we are to seek the good of this land we are in now, for the glory of God (Jeremiah 29:1–14; 1 Peter 2:11–12).
I look forward to seeking the Bible’s wisdom on same-sex marriage over the next 4 weeks. Let’s encourage each other to follow Jesus for the good of others, and show our world the art of respectful loving disagreement – Jesus is the master of respectful disagreement.
In Christ, Tory Cayzer.
