Where is God in this?

Perhaps this is one of the worst weeks Walgett has had. At least for some time. Snake bite, sudden cancer, sudden in sleep.

When you see the suffering and sickness in our world, you have to wonder: where is God in this?

Our Bible reading from John 5 gives us the answer… He is right in the middle of it.

Jesus is at the Pool of Bethesda where the disabled people lie, and he heals. He has the power and authority to do something about it.

The signs (like healing) that Jesus gives point to him being God, and point to what he is doing to fix the sickness and suffering in our world.

On the cross Jesus took the infirmities and sin of this world on himself. He bore it for us. And he rose to eternal life to show he has defeated it.

Where is God in all this?

Look to Jesus among the disabled at the pool as he heals. Look to Jesus on the cross where he bore our infirmities and sin – he is right in the middle of it taking it all on himself. And look to Jesus who will return to bring in God’s Kingdom, where: There will be no more death, or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away (Revelation 21:4).

In Christ, Tory.
