Words are powerful. With them we make promises, make people laugh, cry, and can even silence people. John’s Gospel introduces us to a powerful Word.
Jesus is the Word of God. It is through the Word that God communicates, and creates: ‘Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.’ (John 1:3) God spoke and everything came into existence. That Word God spoke was Jesus.
As we read John’s Gospel we will see God re-creating everything through Jesus. The Creator has come to walk in his creation. We will see him make water into wine, feed the hungry, heal the sick, walk on water, and bring the dead back to life.
In John’s Gospel these are not called ‘miracles,’ they are ‘signs.’ These signs point to the future of creation. The Word of God is re-creating the world.
As we approach Christmas, let’s be stunned and in awe of what happens when our Creator comes among us.
In Christ, Tory.
