Busyness is our favourite excuse for not praying.
In his book ‘A Call To Spiritual Reformation,’ Don Carson tells of a couple who came upon a car pulled over by the road. When they stopped to help, they were told the car owners had been in such a hurry to get to a meeting they didn’t make sure they had petrol in the tank. Thankfully, the couple gave them enough petrol to get to the service station not far away.
Amazingly, as the couple drove home that day they came across the same car by the side of the same road, about 10km further along. Sure enough, they were in such a hurry they didn’t stop at that service station and so had run out of petrol again.
Starting the day without prayer is like leaving home without petrol in the tank.
I the well-known story of Martha and Mary, Jesus teaches us to not be too busy for him. Jesus teaches that Mary was right to spend time with him, rather than Martha who was too busy for him (Luke 10:38–42).
Are you too busy to pray?
